MAKE UP SNOW DAYS

Dear Parents and Students of King Philip Regional Schools,

I wanted to inform you as soon as was possible regarding changes to this year's school calendar. Due to the unprecedented amount of snow and subsequent school closures, the School Committee voted to make  Friday, April 3, 2015,  a scheduled school holiday, a half day of school.

In addition the School Committee voted to have the first day of school for students on September 2 with Friday, September 4, 2015 as a half day prior to the Labor Day weekend and scheduled  March 25, 2016 (Good Friday) as full day of school.

KP SCIENCE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY - CULTURAL LECTURE SERIES

The King Philip Science National Honor Society will present a Cultural Lecture Series open to the public this March.

Three different shows will be given by Brent Nixon from his Nature Talks….Are You Listening? series. These shows are both entertaining and educational, and will appeal to all ages.  Shows are free but seats are limited.

On Wednesday, March 18 at 7:00 pm in the middle school auditorium the show will be Alaska!  This show will take you on a fantastic exploration through time and the fabled Inside Passage await you in this show.  Meet the "rushes" that have shaped the land and the people you could meet during your travels here.  Get a chance to look into this magnificent treasure chest and let your mind's fingers touch the gems that make this land so spectacular.  Come fly with eagles, walk the forest with bears, and swim the icy waters with whales in a show that will take you to this great land.

On Thursday, March 19 at 7:00 pm in the high school auditorium the show will be Brown and Black Bears of North America.  During this show you will take a serious step into the world of this czar of the wilderness.  Meet the Grizzly, also known as a coastal brown bear, and find out what it is capable of.  This is a show of understanding how bears communicate and how to communicate with bears in a way that they understand.  Learn how to tell Brown and Black Bears apart (hint: it is not the color!) and some of the behaviors that make them unique.  This is a fun show for everyone even if you never plan on going into the woods.

On Saturday, March 21 at 10:00 am at Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Norfolk, the show will be Coastal Bald Eagles.  This show is an animated look into the life of one of our coastal raptors.  From chick to old age, this show presents a light-hearted, fact-filled glimpse at this avian success story.  High on the endangered species list for many years, the Bald Eagle has made an amazing comeback to most of the states in North America thanks to people who care about our planet.

Due to the intimate setting at Stony Brook you must pre-register for this show.  Visit the Mass Audubon Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary website or call 508-528-3140 to register for this show.

This program is supported in part by grants from the Plainville Cultural Council, Norfolk Cultural Council, and Wrentham Cultural Council, local agencies which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, along with the Norfolk Community League, the King Philip Parents Network, and the Chieftain Yearbook.
